Secede - Leraine
Secede is a Dutch based musician whose crafty approach to beatmaking has earned him respect and a loyal fanbase.
One of his standout tracks is Leraine. The ambient nature sounds provide a soothing backdrop to a wandering trance melody that is backed by uncharacteristic heavy drum samples. The track is perfect for a night time drive or for a long Summer afternoon, and since it is the first day of summer in Australia, we can look forward to plenty more of those.
::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS:: - Pirouette
Producer Sabzi and vocalist Kelsey Bulkin comprise the diverse duo of ::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS::. Their music is different on so many levels to other artists. Sabzi takes a masterfully minimalist approach to the groups music by arranging interesting percussion with dreamy synths. In turn, Kelsey crafts lyrics rich in emotional appeals and metaphors.
Piroutte is the second new release from ::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS:: this month with DEATH coming out a few days ago. Their social media posts have been coming more frequently with lyrics being posted days in advance before the release of DEATH and Piroutte.
Hopefully the new music doesn’t dry up too soon and we can enjoy an album release in the near future.

::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS:: - DEATH
::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS:: are back!
After releasing two game changing EPs (Winter Pigeons and APORIA) in 2010 and 2011 respectively, all has been quiet from the New Yorker duo who are still relatively unknown and do very little publicity. And despite beatmaker Sabzi hinting about an upcoming debut album in Q&A sessions, there has been no official word about upcoming projects.
That was until today, when the ::M∆DE::IN::HEIGHTS:: Facebook page proclaimed DEATH was impending.
The single loops a euphoric choir sample, 808 beats and some minimal piano flourishes for Kelsey Bulkin to serenade over. The release of DEATH easily eclipses 99% of new music releases and is sure to become a favourite over at the Ill Chill Pill for our top 2013 picks.

Cosmo Sheldrake - Rich (feat. Anna Roo)
Described as a “master-looper,” Cosmo Sheldrake makes some epic noises. His unorthodox means for constructing a song has earned him accolades by professional musicians and fans alike.
To really get an understanding of how Como puts together music from samples, off-kilter instruments and a frantic energy, you really need to check out footage of a live performance.
Even after watching Cosmo do his thing and the novelty of the live show has worn off, I am still convinced that the 23 year old musician has the goods to produce a damn good song. Get stuck into his other amazing recorded tracks (of which there are a current total of four-five floating around the web).
Koreless - Lost in Tokyo
Koreless is definitely at the forefront of progressive downtempo in my books. I even have a sneaking suspicion that prominent DJ Bonobo took inspiration from the brooding soundscapes of Koreless' work when making his latest album, The North Borders.
Despite just breaking out of teenagerhood, Koreless can craft a meanly minimalist track in a seemingly effortless fashion.
It is a pretty ominous introspective song, but on a Monday night, who feels like conversating anyhow?
Fatboy Slim - Praise You (Maribou State Remix)
Most people who inhabited this planet in the late 90s will be familiar with Fatboy Slim's crossover dance hit Praise You. His witty sense of sampling and DJing credentials helped in kickstarted his career. The comparatively little-known collective Maribou State may be lack Fatboy Slim's ageing fanbase, but not his production skills.
Maribou State first came to my attention with their flawless remix of Ultraista's Gold Dayzz. They certainly have a knack for creating melt in your mouth music and the warm synths feel as though they are transporting you to a Mediterranian beach on a lazy afternoon.
Time to press repeat methinks.

thE KindeR - Fliegen (Unifono Remix)
There really is something mystical about this track. Filegen (or the English translation Fly), is a dance track that takes haunting samples and recurring chimes to frame a watertight trance composition.
The way this song evolves is transfixing and listening with quality headphones is a surefire headtrip. The song builds gradually until about the 2:45 point when a harmonised but unintelligible vocal sample breaks the mould and things really get interesting from 3:20 onward.
The chime samples remind me of Pogo's Disney sample song from the Secret Garden, Mary’s Magic, spliced with a Blair Witch Project inspired rave in Germany’s Black Forest. I may not be too far off the mark there, considering Unifono is based out of Austria.
The xx - Angels (Budo Remix)
Even if you already have a stack of xx remixes, you can definitely afford room for this one.
This song has been floating around for a long time and it seems as though every man and his dog has made at least one remix/cover of The xx, but Seattle born producer Budo is renowned for his production work and this remix of Angels definitely warrants a listen.
The trap beat fit the moody bittersweet melody perfectly. It’s a synergy between light and dark and the wintry feel of this remix suits the chilly weather in Melbourne right now. Enjoy.
