Menomena - Heavy Is As Heavy Does
Portland-based experimental rockers Menomena live up to the ‘heavy’ description on their latest single from their upcoming album. The personal lyrics discuss daddy issues in an apathetic way. Despite the dark content, the classic rock approach is a welcome break from the synthesizer saturated music perpetuated by many groups today.
At the 2:40 mark there is even an element of grunge as angsty distorted guitar lines mark the climax of the single.
Keep an eye out for the album Moms which will be released on September 18th.
Enjoy.
ANR - Millionaire (live)
ANR (Awesome New Republic) blew my mind earlier this year when I heard Stay Kids for the first time. The band have just released a cover version of Kelis’ 2004 song Millionaire which featured André 3000.
Their cover is moody and emotive and shows a side of the band I haven’t heard before. Although the video is shot entirely in one room, it showcases the performance beautifully. I don’t claim to be a big Nirvana buff but ANR remind me of Cobain’s songwriting with their dark energy that comes through on this track.
Do yourself a favour and check out their music. Right click here & save file for the mp3. Enjoy.
