The Shins - Bait & Switch
March 20th is not far off and in anticipation of their upcoming release The Shins have leaked another song from Port of Morrow.
I read an interview with frontman James Mercer close to a year ago. In the piece he said that the new album was going to be pretty upbeat as he was at a happy point in his life. Bait and Switch is definitely a manifestation of this happy outlook and is actually poppier than I’d expect from The Shins. But the band, which has undegone a new line-up, seems to suit the sound nicely.
Mercer’s trademark introspection might not be immediately apparent on this number, but rest assured his clever lyricism hasn’t faltered over the years.
Enjoy!

The Shins - September
After several years of absence, The Shins have finally begun releasing new material in anticipation of their first album in 5 years, Port of Morrow.
Simple Song is the first single which was released in January. Now, the b-side September has been leaked along with a video. According to iTunes, September will also be on the new album.
The song showcases Mercer’s trademark narrative-rich, introspective crooning. The song is consistent to much of the band’s earlier work with a familiar reverberating guitar layer playing over acoustic strumming. Port of Morrow will be released on March 20th.
