Bon Iver & The Roots - Perth (live)
The Roots recently invited Justin Vernon to jam with them on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, while he was in New York. This is the result of the jam session: an 8 minute live rendition of Perth, the album opener from Bon Iver’s self titled sophmore album.
The live autotune is pretty interesting and as always The Roots are excellent and musically adaptive as ever.

Radical Face - Always Gold
My third Radical Face post in the past three months, but I feel that I need to share this song with people. Yesterday Ben Cooper released The Family Tree: Roots, his first album as Radical Face since 2006’s Ghost. Like the classic Welcome Home, Always Gold begins slowly. The melody is both haunting and uplifting - emotions that typify much of Cooper’s songwriting. Like Ghost, his latest work is also a concept album. As Cooper explains,
“I’m a storyteller, and wanted that to be the focus. I looked up genealogy charts and studied American history for a frame of reference and put it all together.”
This is the type of thing you might expect an author to do before releasing a novel, so it’s hardly surprising that Cooper used to be an author before deciding to take up music.
There’s a lot of substance in this release, but you don’t have to be concentrating intently to enjoy the music. So, relax and enjoy.
